Lasagna

We just finished our unit study on community and O's final project was to do something that will help somebody in her community. As it turns out, our preschool's former president is going through a hard time since her husband (who is only 39!) just had a heart attack. Her family has a Meal Train set up, so O and I signed up to bring them a meal. For her project, she had to write out the steps she needed to take, so she wrote 1) buy groceries, 2) cook the meal, 3) take the meal to the family. She also needs to draw a picture of the process and then answer a few questions at the end. She has been so into this project. We went shopping yesterday and chose all the ingredients we needed for a chicken lasagna and green salad, with a watermelon for dessert.

Today, we cooked the chicken and noodles and assembled the lasagna. I also had O put together a small lasagna for her dinner. I was so impressed at how helpful she has become in the kitchen. She shredded the chicken herself, added the noodles to the pot, added spices and sauce to the chicken and did a few taste tests until it was just right, and assembled both lasagnas by herself.

My favorite part of today was teaching her how to use the leftover bits of noodle to sop up the leftover bits of sauce in the pot, like my mom taught me when I was a kid. Chicken lasagna was one of my favorite meals my mom ever made. It took a ton of willpower for me to keep from sampling any today, since A can't eat any of the ingredients :(

Tomorrow we'll drop off the meal for the family. Hope they enjoy it!
