Haiti

My BFF Treesa and her daughter, Meghan, will be volunteering at a birth center in Haiti in March of 2012. Treesa will be working as a midwife at the birth center called MamaBaby Haiti, and Meghan will be volunteering in the birth center's community garden, as well as helping with many other community projects going on in the area.

They have had such a generous response from people wanting to help donate money or supplies to them. There's a company in San Leandro called Medshare, which is letting Treesa buy 50 pounds of medical supplies for a reduced rate. Both Meghan and Treesa will be packing as many supplies as they can possibly carry, and they're hoping to manage around 100 pounds each.

Haiti has the highest infant and maternal mortality rate in the western hemisphere and they have been in a truly sad state ever since the massive earthquake. Treesa knows it will not be easy to work there, but she's willing to go and see what she can do to help. I give her a lot of credit.

To help raise money for their trip, they are currently holding an online silent auction. If you are interested in bidding on any of the items, you can find a list here: http://volunteer-haiti.blogspot.com/p/silent-auction-items.html. I know they will appreciate help or donations in any amount. The silent auction ends September 18th!
