Maya Angelou

As part of my nesting, I've decided to re-read every book I own so that I can keep only those that speak to my soul.  I recently started reading the first autobiography of Maya Angelou and then discovered there were actually 7 total!  I had no idea there were others, including one that came out just a couple years ago.  I had three here but had to check the others out of the library.  I've been reading her books for the past couple weeks and just finished today.

She has a lot of poetry books but I can't stand to read poetry (it's as painful as listening to opera or shopping at Frys) so I'm skipping those for now.  I will check out her children's books soon.

What an absolutely fascinating life she had.  It feels like an accomplishment to read her stories straight through, and keep track of all her travels and experiences.  I picked up a new phrase that her mom used to tell her, which is "You may not always get what you pay for, but you'll always pay for what you get."  Her last autobiography was all about her mom, and she seemed like such an amazing woman.  I hope Olivia thinks I'm amazing someday :)

I'm starting on an Alice Walker book next.
