La Opinion

I was interviewed today by a reporter from La Opinion, the second largest newspaper in Southern California. She is writing an article about midwives and our current legislative battle and she wanted to interview a Latina midwife.

She got my name from several other midwives because apparently I am the *only* Latina licensed midwife in the entire Bay Area. Dang. She asked some basic questions about home birth and midwifery but I was thrown by her question about why more Latinas don't become midwives. I dunno. Gee, expensive schooling, long hours, low pay, little respect. Why would anyone want to become a midwife? :)

Anyway, she wanted to come down from her office in Sacramento to take some pictures of me. At first I agreed and then remembered my refrigerator is sitting in my living room. How could I invite her here? I ended up emailing her a couple pics and I hope they'll be good enough. I hope the article comes out okay and that I don't get misquoted. I was so nervous.
