Today was the only day all year that Louis could have gone to preschool tot time with O, since he was on vacation, so the three of us went for just an hour this morning before our flight. He was impressed. We love Broadmoor.
My dad gave us a ride to the airport, where we discovered that our flight was delayed by half an hour. It actually worked out because it gave us time to sit down together for lunch before we boarded. Olivia was awesome the whole time. She wasn't scared at all. We kept her entertained with lots of snacks, the airline peanuts and water, a craft project, and Frozen memory game. The flight attendant brought her a coloring book and sticker pilot wings, which she loved. The flight was over before I knew it.
Finding our checked luggage was an issue. We waited at the baggage claim until we were the last ones there and were still missing our checked stroller. We ended up finding it in the oversized luggage area but only after waiting an hour past our flight arrival.
There is absolutely nothing convenient about traveling with kids.
We found a shuttle right away but it took forever to leave the airport and then we got stuck in LA traffic. So, basically, we could have driven and gotten here faster than flying. By the time we got settled into our hotel room (which wasn't ready when we got here), it was close to 5 pm. Olivia was exhausted. I've never let her nap that late before, but we didn't want to waste a day by not going to Disneyland. So, she napped for about 45 minutes and then we headed to the park.
Except our "just across the street" hotel is actually a 45 minute walk away. I'm not impressed with the hotel at all so far, especially with the refrigerator and continental breakfast not being included because we "didn't choose that package." Next time we will totally splurge for a nicer hotel closer to the park or at least one that includes a shuttle to and from the airport and the parks.
By the time we got to the park, we were so hungry that we just hurried through Main Street to get to the nearest restaurant. It ended up being a Pinocchio place that had decent food and it was right next to the Dumbo ride and the teacups. Olivia rode the Dumbo ride first and absolutely loved it. Louis took her first while I waited in line and then handed her to me as they got off, so she got to ride twice in a row. It was much higher and faster than I expected and she was so excited.
As soon as we entered the park, we saw Mickey and Minnie right away. O was really excited to see them but didn't want to get close at all. We may not be getting many autographs this trip.
She also really loved Small World. I tried to get a picture of her face as we were on the boat going through the ride but the lighting made it hard. She mumbled the song the entire way through the ride and pointed out things and laughing. It was super cute.
The lines weren't bad at all tonight but the park was really dark and it was hard to tell where we were. We stopped at City Hall, where O got her "first time" button and I got my birthday one. We rode the Monorail to Downtown Disney and took a taxi back to the hotel.
Louis and O are fast asleep and I'm heading there. I am utterly exhausted from such a full day. The weather is only slightly hotter than back home, so it's hot but it wasn't miserable. Tomorrow we're thinking of spending the day in California Adventure so we can see all the princesses that hang out there. Olivia seemed to love Disneyland tonight and I think she'll love it even more in the daytime.
