Infant Car Seats

Help!

I'm stuck on a question about infant car seats. I have a list of places that check that car seats are installed correctly but I'm also looking for some personal recommendations.

dk - where did you go to make sure your seat was installed right?

Anyone have any personal experience taking a car seat to a local fire house, AAA office, or police department to be checked?

Anyone know about free car seats available to low-income families in Alameda County?

Who would you ask (or what web site would you visit) if you had questions about car seats?

Thanks, y'all.

we'll be going to AAA to get the carseat checked. CHP used to do checks at their offices--i'm not sure if they still do though. it seemed like they'd do a good job. a lot of times they'd add part of a swimming pool noodle to make sure it was nice and snug. http://www.seatcheck.org/

we never got it "professionally" checked, just sort of went by the directions and the window on the bottom side that tells you whether it's balanced or not. we added the swimmy noodle to my car, but it wasn't necessary on the other car. we probably should get it checked......... he's in the middle and rear facing, too. even though he's met the recommended weight and age to be forward facing, studies still show he's safest in the rear facing position. we're going to keep him that way until after the snow falls just in case.
