Six Months

I have officially been a licensed midwife and small business owner for six months now. To date, I have:

Come up with a name!
Updated my web site, www.generationsmidwifery.com, to reflect my new midwifery services.
Obtained a fictitious business name statement from Alameda County.
Opened a free small business checking account.
Compiled a listing of more than 100 books and DVDs in my lending library.
Inventoried all my supplies and equipment.
Created a Facebook page.
Created a Yelp account.
Begun hosting a monthly support group for local aspiring midwives.
Begun facilitating a formal midwifery study group for students.
Become a member of the California Association of Midwives.
Networked with SAVE, the local domestic violence organization.
Worked on developing a group I started, Southern Alameda County Birth Professionals, into a formal non-profit focused on bringing a birth resource center to the area.
Developed forms for my practice (registration, health history, informed consent, etc).
Organized supplies and equipment in my trunk and in my home office.
Participated in a conference call of midwives of color from throughout North America.
Been hired by my very first home birth client (in San Leandro!).
Caught my first baby at a solo (unplanned) home birth.
Signed my first birth Alameda County birth certificate.
Revised my Google Adwords account to include more keywords, such as "Latina Midwife, San Leandro Midwife, Fremont homebirth" etc.
Created a wholesale account (40% discount!) with HerbLore.
Raised my doula fee to more accurately reflect my value and experience.
Participated in the City of San Leandro's disaster preparedness planning sessions.

Whew, look at me go!

My goals for the next six months include:

Having the web site professionally developed.
Coming up with a logo design.
Printing letterhead and business cards.
Working with a consistent work load of at least one client per month.
Developing the SACBP into a 501c3.
Buying a comprehensive homeopathic remedy kit.
Hosting a GMS open house for the community.
Purchasing a complete set of birth and suturing instruments.
Purchasing a birth tub which can be rented to clients.

I can do it, right?
